Cuttlefish are living on a completely different level than the rest of us.
Three hearts. One pumps blood to the body, two pump it to the gills. Because apparently one heart wasn’t efficient enough for these overachievers.
W-shaped pupils that can see behind them. They don’t need to turn around to check for predators – their eyes adjust shape to give them near 360-degree vision. Imagine having built-in rearview mirrors.
All of this incredible evolution for just 1-2 years of life. That’s it. They get maybe two years to use those three hearts, those shape-shifting eyes, that master-level camouflage ability. Then it’s over.
Nature really said ‘here’s everything you need to be extraordinary’ and then gave them no time to enjoy it.
