Parrotfish

Parrotfish are out here living their most authentic lives while literally building the beaches you chill out on.

They munch on coral and algae all day, grind it up with their fused beak-teeth. Then excrete it as fine white sand. One parrotfish can create up to 200kg of sand per year!

They said ‘gender is a construct’ and meant it. Many parrotfish species are sequential hermaphrodites – they start life as female and can transition to male as they mature. And when they do? They get a complete makeover with new colors and patterns.“It’s not a phase!”… it’s evolution being absolutely brilliant.

We could all learn something from the parrotfish approach to life – be yourself, change when you need to, and leave the world a little better (or sandier) than you found it.
