Ceningan Wall Bali Dive Site

The Island of Bali has a wide variety of dive sites that experienced and amateur divers can enjoy. Those who have been in Bali before will admit that this has actually become a favorite diving spot. A two week diving trip to Bali is hardly enough for you to enjoy all the wonderful dive sites there are. Some of the ones that are very well known include Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan. Located between Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Penida is Nusa Ceningan, it is the smallest of the three islands but has some dive sites that are very attractive.

Ceningan Wall Nusa Penida

Of these, the Ceningan Wall stands out as the most famous of its dive sites. However, it is not a popular dive site because it experiences strong currents and an unpredictable down current as well. The currents here tend to change direction almost constantly making it ideal only for strong and accomplished divers. It is located on Nusa Ceningan’s western shore and you will find that there are not very many diver operators willing to take their clients there.

Those who brave this site will be treated to excellent sightings of Tuna, Barracuda and Trivelli. You may also get to see sea turtles, white tip sharks and leopard sharks as well. The Ocean bottom at Ceningan Wall is a mixture of sea vegetation, hard coral and sand. Many times you will find these fish just peacefully swimming above the floor of the ocean looking for something to eat.

The water at the Ceningan wall usually stays at about 22°C so if you are used to warmer waters, you may have to dress warm. Entry is usually from the northern side, and if you drift dive for about 50 or so minutes, you will be at the end of the wall on the Southern tip. It is possible to experience the down current at this point and the water may flow like that of a flooded river. With an experienced surface crew to throw you a rope and pull you out, you will do just fine.

In order to dive here, it is important that you select a diver operator who is conversant with this dive site and its currents. The speedboat crew also needs to know the area well and move with the necessary speed to get you out of the water in time to avoid being swept into the open sea. If you want to dive at Ceningan Wall, staying in Nusa Lembongan is the best choice. This dive site is not accessible at all time and planning in advance is required, hence staying in Nusa Lembongan will aid in the planning to dive this site.
