Nusa Lembongan

Did you know that a 25-minute boat ride from Bali lays a paradise island? That island is Nusa Lembongan which is one of three islands part of the Nusa Penida Archipelago. Nusa Lembongan, Nusa Ceningan and Nusa Penida are the three islands located southeast of ‘main’ island Bali. Also known as the Nusa Islands. Lembongan island is only 25-minute speedboat ride away from Sanur. Nusa Penida is the largest of the three. Nusa Lembongan and Ceningan Island are the other two and connected by a famous yellow bridge.

The island is surrounded by beautiful white-sand beaches. There is a secret beach on the south, limestone cliffs on the southeast, mangroves on the north side and all around the island you will find stunning healthy coral reefs to dive on.

Transportation on Nusa Lembongan

Nusa Lembongan is one of those awesome islands where transportation is not as accessible as ‘normal’. Nope, there are no real taxi’s! The easiest way to do explore Nusa Lembongan is to rent a bike if you have the license. If not, do not worry about it because there is hardly any police on the island.  You will find that the roads here are not so packed with traffic.

Renting a bike is  average 70,000 IDR daily allowing you the freedom to explore the island at your pace. You may also consider renting a bicycle. If you are only going a short distance, you can probably have a little walk and enjoy the surroundings. Exploring Nusa Lembongan is really easy. You can get a guidebook at no cost at any restaurant or hotel.

Exploring the area for fun is a great way to spend your day. Go over the bridge that connects Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan and visit a seaweed farm, secret beach and many other places. Diving in Nusa Lembongan with the clear waters will give you access to many different sea animals and when you are done, find a great place to have a bite of some of the delicious foods on offer.

You should consider going scuba diving or surfing here because there are excellent reef breaks, waves and world-class scuba diving. The best time to go surfing is from April to the month of September or October.

Food in Nusa Lembongan

There are a good variety of restaurants in Nusa Lembongan. On the island, you will find options ranging from local ‘warungs’ to burgers, Italian restaurants, resorts that cater to all taste buds. Some you have to drive to, others will arrange pickups and drop-offs from your accommodation.

If you are looking for local ‘warung food’, for ease we recommend two places. One near Mushroom Beach, the other in Jangut Batu.

Warungs:

  • Warung Kevin is located about a 5-minute walk from Mushroom Beach. You can ask for directions from us, or most locals should be able to point you in the right direction.
  • Warung Nyoman is a warung located just outside of Jangut Batu towards the mangroves.
